Perfumes with French tradition

ST Dupont perfumes appeared in 1998 and were another addition to the entire range of luxury accessories. The first of them - ST Dupont Pour Femme and ST Dupont Pour Homme were created by outstanding noses . Men's perfumes delighted with a balsamic, warm and rusty scent, and in the women's version you could feel the chypre aroma. A newer line is the perfume 58 Avenue Montaigne, whose name refers to the legendary boutique. Women's and men's perfumes combine the tradition of the French master with the modernity of the modern world.

CAREER

The ST Dupont company grew, and in 1929 luxury goods reached customers in New York – products could be bought in the Cartier boutique on 58th Avenue. In the 1930s, the brand invented a new process of leather processing. The diamond-ribbed material was still delicate, but it gained durability – it was resistant to heat and moisture. All this made the brand famous all over the world. In 1947, the American actor Humphrey Bogart asked to design a travel bag for himself, and the Maharaja of Patiala ordered patent leather bags for his harem along with luxurious lighters. ST Dupont's services were also used by Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy.

Learn all about the fascinating history of Maison ST Dupont in a few key dates!

BEGINNINGS

Simon Tissot Dupont, photographer to Napoleon III and a pioneering spirit with an eye for aesthetics, opened his first saddlery shop in Paris in 1872, at just 25 years old.

His personalized travel shorts soon became the ultimate accessory for Europe’s elite. Leading late 19th-century stores like the Grand Magasins du Louvre chose him as their supplier, and celebrities like Eugénie de Montijo commissioned her cosmetic bag from Dupont.

WORKSHOPS IN FAVERGES

Lucien and André, sons of Simon Tissot Dupont, took over in 1919 and in 1924 decided to move the Paris workshop to the family home in Faverges in Haute-Savoie. With the new workshop located on Lake Annecy, the cleanest lake in Europe, ST Dupont products are made in one of the most extraordinary natural environments in France.

INNOVATIONS THAT CREATED A FAMOUS HOUSE

In 1930, Lucien Tissot Dupont developed a completely new tanning technique using diamond powder to give ST Dupont leather even greater durability and elasticity. This meant that the leather could withstand heat, humidity and the rigors of travel. This refined technique is still used in the Diamond Soft range.

After recruiting Georges Novossiltzeff in 1935, ST Dupont became the first luxury maison to master the Asian technique of lacquering on metal – a secret it has kept ever since.

The two Tissot Dupont brothers also showed their entrepreneurial spirit and ability to reinvent themselves when they developed the first luxury petrol lighter during World War II; the Maharaja of Patiala was one of the first customers to adopt this completely new product. Shortly after, in 1952, the first luxury gas lighter was developed: the "D57". This technical revolution gave the unique possibility of regulating the intensity of the flame using a small lever on the burner.

At the request of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, eager to please a demanding clientele, in 1973 Maison ST Dupont designed the first luxury pen, the "Classique ST Dupont".

In 2017, on the 75th anniversary of the first lighter, ST Dupont unveiled the world's first complication lighter. Resembling gold and palladium lace, yet strong and delicate, this 200-piece metal paradox is protected by a secret code with visible working parts. With both a double flame and a torch flame, this display of the skills of the Faverges craftsmen took four years to design and produce.

ST DUPONT: "THE CREATOR OF THE TRUNK OF KINGS"

In 1934 the press dubbed the Chamber the "manufacturer of kings' trunks."

Blue bloods, movie legends, fashion icons, wealthy industrialists and politicians, all the biggest names came to the Paris headquarters, where Lucien and his staff welcomed them as they should. Nothing was too beautiful or extravagant.

The Maison’s famous clients included Wallis Simpson, who commissioned a custom travel trunk in 1945.

Two years later, the iconic “Bogie” was born when Hollywood star Humphrey Bogart asked ST Dupont’s craftsmen to create a lightweight travel bag for flights and weekends aboard his yacht Santana. That same year, ST Dupont made his final travel trunk for Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate her wedding to the Duke of Edinburgh.

In 1953, André Tissot Dupont designed the Riviera handbag with a secret compartment for Audrey Hepburn.
